Aotearoa - week #1

Oh it feels GREAT to be back on New Zealand soil again and to be on holiday!

We have been in The Promised Land for just over 1 week and already I feel the land luring me back with it's haunting melody "Come home! Come home!"...... One day, yes. But for now I need to block my ears to this call. Just for a bit longer. But don't worry we shall return!

The dumb thing is that pretty much as soon as I stepped off the plane I felt illness coming on and have spent the past week with fevers, coughing and lots of snot. Yuk. Definitely didn't plan to spend the first week of our much anticipated holiday feeling like CRAP but hey, that's life huh? And that's typically what happens when you go from 'Full-On' mode to 'Relax' mode - you get sick. Bluh.

Anyway, the worst is over and to celebrate I went for a run in the sun, not a cloud in the sky, through beautiful NZ bush. Bliss! It felt good to blast out the remaining fragments of my cold and fill the lungs with good clean air. Oh yeah.

The one person I passed on the street as I neared home said hello to me and I almost fell over from the shock of it! I'm so used to the unfriendliness of Londoners that I forget kiwis actually acknowledge each other as they pass on the street.

We are currently staying with my husbands parents and then Easter weekend we head up north to be with my family for the remainder of our holiday.

Our days have been focusing around coffee (and not just any ol' coffee, we're talking God-breathed coffee!), sleep-ins (thanks to the grandparents who take the early shift) and just pure and simple good family times.

Luca is pretty much potty trained now (sing choirs of angels, sing in exultation!) and spends his time running around Granny & Pop's garden. Beni is loving having so many cuddles from the uncles, aunties and grandparents. He tells them all his woes. I don't think I've changed a dirty nappy since we've been here....AWESOME!!

I'm LOVING watching our boys interact with their grandparents. It breaks my heart because our children should be experiencing grandparent time all the time instead of living on the other side of the world from them. But like I said, just for a bit longer... Ultimately it's up to the Big Guy (that's G.O.D.) as to when we return. It's nice to be able to leave the big decisions in His hands. And thankfully He knows my heart and how much it hurts to be away from family.

So here's a few snippits of our week #1

A tour of the Cadbury Factory - hairnets and 'beard-nets' compulsory....HAHAHAAAA!!

See you next week!

  1. LOL I know what you mean about someone saying hello to you. I live in a small city and when I moved here I was so shocked that people talk to you! They're so friendly. Welcome back :D
